For piano.
Difficulty: advanced to difficult.
Felix Blumenfeld
(1863-1931) was not only a well-known composer, but also a great
pianist and renowned professor. One of his master pupils was Vladimir
Horowitz. As a conductor of the Mariinsky Theatre, he conducted the
world premiere of Scriabin's Symphony No. 3 and his »Poème de l' Extase«
as well as several operas of his teacher Nikolay Rimsky-Korsakov, among
others. He also conducted the Russian premiere of Wagner's »Tristan and
Isolde«. Blumenfeld's piano works wrongly fell out of favour. With this
reprint of the 24 preludes, which stand up to a comparison with
Chopin's 24 Preludes or works by Liszt, the publisher meets the wish of a
number of pianists to make this demanding and brilliant music once
again available to the public.
