Edition for piano trio, score and 2 parts (violin, cello), arranged by Wolfgang Birtel.
There will
always be composers who will be remembered by posterity for just one work:
Tekla Badarzewska for »The Maiden's
Prayer«, Zden?k Fibich for his »Poème« or Enrico Toselli for his »Serenade«. Often little or nothing is known
about the composers themselves, as is the case
with Kurt Noack (1895-1945) who wrote a number of pieces of light music
specially for »palm court« orchestras and was active in both Stettin and
Berlin. Even in the weighty reference books of musicology there is no mention
of his work. The only work still known
today by Noack, »Heinzelmännchens Wachtparade« (Parade of the Brownies) Op. 5 was called a »character
piece« by the composer himself, and this »marche en miniature« conveys wit and
good humour from the beginning, you can immediately imagine a picture of the
brownies tripping along! The second part of the trio offers an ironical and very
effective ending with its enticing harmonies and surprising effects. Kurt Noack
wrote other similar genre music such as a »Valse Scandinave« Op. 10 or the »Marionetten
um Mitternacht« (Puppets at midnight) Op. 54, but only the delightful
»Heinzelmännchens Wachtparade« has survived.
