The Book 2 Teacher's Manual from New Directions for Strings is designed
to complement the separate instrumental books. In it, all the exercises
and pieces are presented in full score, with most having piano
accompaniment. Throughout the Teacher's Manual are pieces designated as
ensemble pieces that foster independant ensemble skills and are also
suitable for concert sitiations. The text is presented in 18 units where
new skills, concepts and music fundamentals are: prepared in advance;
introduced in the student books for focused classroom instruction;
applied to already known elements in a review section. The Teacher's
Manual comes complete with two play-along CDs. New Directions for
Strings represents the first method ever written by a team of pedagogues
representing each of the four stringed instruments. With more than 100
years of combined teaching experience, the authors of New Directions®
for Strings explore many new directions, including equal integration of
all the instruments, a tetrachord-based approach to support proper
development of the left hand, and ensemble opportunities that occur
throughout the book.
