Composed in 1995 Earth and Dust uses electronics. The three double basses are playing amplified and unamplified in turns. The use of a pick-up is necessary. The one-movement piece lasts for about nine minutes based on the central note E. The atmosphere is quiet and archaic with a pulsating ostinato. Special effects like »crunching bow« or »pizzicato with fingernails« are required. A piece for an ambitious bass trio.
